Teamwork

I have been on several sports teams throughout college and high school. However, I have also been on teams at work that we have had to come together to achieve one common goal. My sophomore year of college I was working at Academy Sports and Outdoors. I was in the shoe department. It was the week before Black Friday and things were getting crazy. Our manager in the shoe department called us all in to his office and gave us a goal. He wanted the shoe department to be all in order, shoes in the right place, and sizes of all the shoes in stock. As a team we came together and began to work. It took most of the week to finish the project but we accomplished the goal. While accomplishing the goal it took communication, awareness, and trust that the other person was going to hold up there end. After Black Friday ended, the shoe department was voted the best department in the store. Our manager was extremely proud of the way we came together. We were all rewarded with pizza in the break room for the next week. It was a good time to be in the shoe department.

Source Blog

The sources I used for my last paper were very helpful. They included a lot of detail about my topic and help me create ideas that I wanted to write about. The websites were very easy to navigate. They were also very easy to read. The only thing I disliked about my sources were all the ads on the website. I personally believe that is something that the internet should clean up. The ads get in the way and take up space that could be used for pictures or more information. But overall my sources were very helpful and easy to navigate.

Farmville Demographics

I personally did not know what to expect moving from Missouri to Farmville, Virginia. However, since being here it has its similarities to the hometown. It is not a very big town with only having a estimated population of 7,831. There is not a lot of activities to do around the town. There is a few more places to eat in Farmville. I would say the towns income situation is also very similar at $56,281 annually for a household. The majority of the population is white with African American following behind. In Farmville there is not a lot of married couples in the area probably due to all the college students with Longwood and Hampton Sydney. The primary language in Farmville that is used is English. The most outstanding demographic about Farmville is the poverty rate. The overall poverty rate is 35.94%, the male poverty rate is 35.31% and the female poverty pate is 36.35%. The number of veterans in Farmville is 272, with 242 being males and the other 30 being females. Farmville overall is a very poor town with the majority of the towns income comes from Longwood and Hampton Sydney students. I find it a nice place to stay but secretly has a lot of history.

The civic issue I am going to be discussing is my take on Donald trump and his wall proposal. I know the wall has been the center of attention for our country for some time now and has ultimately caused our government to shut down. Allow I agree with the wall and the idea of the wall, I do not agree with the shutdown of our government. People are not working because of the shutdown, making things extremely difficult in their household. However, let’s talk about the wall. One of Trump’s campaign promises is that he was going to build a wall along the border of the United States and Mexico. The wall would stretch 1,954 miles along the border. Which Trump and his administration believe it would cost roughly five billion dollars to construct the wall. There were 170,000 Mexican immigrants that illegally came from the southern border in 2015 and an estimated 5.6 million unauthorized immigrants from Mexico in 2016. Four different companies were selected to build prototypes for the wall. So far, these companies have come up with a wall that is thirty-foot-high and thirty foot wide. With different tunnels to access to travel in and out of the countries. Now let’s get in to why the wall is a good idea. Personally, I think the wall is a great idea because most of the United States drug problems come from the Mexico border. According to federal officials 80 to 90 percent of U.S. drugs enter from the Mexican Order. It would also slow down other things like kidnapping and sex trafficking. Even some reports are saying that terrorists are sneaking through Mexico and coming in to the United States. I agree the wall might not actually stop people from coming in to our country, but it will give our border patrol something it does not have now and that is time. If you look at videos of our boarder now it might be a gate with a sign that says no trespassing or something a long those terms. Illegal immigrants are able to just walk right in to our country carrying who knows what with them. It could be drugs, weapons, a person who knows. Illegal immigrants also take away American jobs. Yes, they typically take the low-end job that no one wants but the bottom line is that they take jobs away from American citizens. Speaking of jobs, the wall construction would open up many jobs along the boarder for U.S. citizens to take. I personally do not have anything against someone from a different country. I am not a white extremist. I am just simply worried about the safety of our nation and the job opportunities for our American citizens. What happens in our legal court system when you illegally trespass on someone else’s land or property? That person is slapped with a felony or a charge. I believe the same thing should happen on our southern border. The wall has not passed and I do not know if it will. Again, I do think it is a good idea for our country and it’s safety. However, I would like to see the government back up and running soon.
